ACCESS MY SUPER

Accessing Superannuation to Pay for Dental Treatments

Our Springvale Dental Clinic aims to provide excellent oral and dental care to all patients.

We understand that some dental treatments can be costly. To make dental care more affordable, we partnered with Access My Super to offer a payment program customized to our patients' needs. This program provides an additional payment option to help make recommended treatments accessible.

Can I Access My Superannuation to Pay for My Dental Procedures?

In Australia, individuals can apply to access their superannuation savings to help pay for substantial essential dental procedures, provided they provide supporting documentation to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). The ATO may authorize early release of super funds based on evidence of severe financial hardship or compassionate circumstances.

The ATO looks for proof that an individual is undergoing acute or chronic dental pain and that the funds will be utilized to pay for necessary dental treatment to remedy this pain. Utilizing superannuation savings can assist with managing the costs of significant dental care in difficult personal situations.

What is acute dental pain?

Acute dental pain is sudden, severe pain caused by dental problems requiring urgent treatment. It is brought on by the quick development or worsening of issues such as dental cavities, infected gums, or abscessed teeth.

Given the sudden onset or rapid progression of an existing dental condition, urgent dental intervention is necessary to address acute dental pain.

What is chronic dental pain?

Chronic dental pain refers to a dental condition persisting for a minimum of three months, typically with an indefinite timeframe or gradual changes rather than rapid fluctuations.

Individuals seeking early access to their superannuation savings to pay for necessary dental treatment must meet specific eligibility criteria set forth by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Required documentation includes evidence of an acute dental condition causing severe pain or a chronic condition that has persisted over months.

The ATO stipulates the following standards to qualify for early super release for dental expenses:

  • The applicant lacks the financial means to cover the cost of required dental care.
  • The treatment addresses essential oral health issues and is not cosmetic or elective in nature.
  • The public health system cannot provide the required treatment promptly.

What Procedures Can I Access My Super for?

  • A majority of our patients utilize early superannuation releases to fund significant treatments such as All-On-4 dental implants or traditional implants. Other procedures that may qualify include certain orthodontic treatments and root canals.
  • Should you choose to access your super for essential dental care, we will supply a comprehensive Treatment Plan as part of the application process.
